Happy Monday!

From my customary 15 minutes sipping morning coffee with the New York Times:

  • GOP rallies support for their health care bill (opposed by the vast majority of Americans, including much of the nation’s $3 trillion health care industry).
  • Retail jobs are drying up due to the continuing growth of E-Commerce.
  • American Virgin Islands quickly following Puerto Rico into bankruptcy.
  • 150 Pakistanis killed by exploding tanker truck.
  • White House pushes military might over humanitarian aid in Africa.
  • And that’s just the first 8 pages in section one!

In my constant quest to find something positive to start the day, I finally reached the Arts Section at the back of the paper, and there it was: “Gentle Rainbows for a Gay and Transgender Monument”. On the heels of yesterday’s annual Pride March, it was announced that the artist Anthony Goicolea has been chosen to design the first official monument dedicated to the LBGT Community commissioned by the State of New York. The Monument will be built in Hudson River Park, not far from our former home on Manhattan’s West Side. In making the announcement, Governor Cuomo said “from Stonewall to Marriage equality, New York has always been a beacon for justice. (For more details go to or Google Hudson River Park).

My husband and I moved from NYC to Philadelphia last year to be closer to my 91 year-old Mom and our four grandkids, which has been great-no regrets. But having said that, I must admit there is just no place on earth that compares to New York City. Congratulations on the new Monument-we’ll be there for the opening.

Thoughts/Quotes for the day:

“I am only one, but still I am one.
I cannot do everything, but still I can do something:
I will not refuse to do something I can do.” Helen Keller

Everyone is a genius.
But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree,
it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. Albert Einstein
